In April 2014 whilst on tour in Woolacoombe, the then Machen U10s had a fixture with Minehead. When they arrived at Minehead, Cefn Coed were also there and all teams agreed to play a round robin. During the first game between Minehead and Cefn Coed, one of the of coaches of Cefn Coed Wyn Thomas, who was only 47 years old, fell ill and sadly passed away pitchside. In memory of Wyn, Machen and Cefn Coed agreed to play an annual charity game, and since Wyn died of a heart attack the funds raised on the evening would go to the British Heart Foundation. This year is the 3rd such game and is being held at Machen Rec on the evening of Wednesday 26th April, kick-off 6:45. Everyone welcome, so please come and support the future players of Machen RFC and Welsh rugby. Ex-Ospreys fullback and now Ospreys skills coach Richard Fussell will present the trophy to the winning team.
