U15'S match report 27th Jan 2019

U15s report

Difficult to give a round up of Sunday's game as when you ref you don't see the game the same as if you're on the touchline.

It was a case of how the lads would respond from last week's no show. As coaches we challenged the lads all week in training to bounce back and everyone to front up physically across the park.

Training was aggressive all week and the lads smashed into each other, which set the foundations for our game against our closest neighbours Bedwas. The lads responded well and the large number of spectators weren't dissapointed with what unfolded. I suppose if you can't get yourself motivated for a mouth watering derby game against your closest rivals then God knows what would.

With several lads away skiing and on holiday, we would have not been able to field a side in previous season's. Even with 7 lads away or unavailable we still had 17 lads. When Bedwas rocked up with only 13 players it was going to be hard to rotate players, but Martyn and Tim did a superb job of trying to give all the lads as much game time as possible.

Everything that was poor last week was put right yesterday, especially the breakdown and tackle area. Bedwas simply didn’t have an answer to being smashed in every ruck and the defensive linespeed (not offside as alluded to from the opposition touchline) was simply top drawer.

Great attitude from start to finish and it was pretty impressive to dispatch Bedwas 53 - 0 with 20 minutes still to play. The strength in depth we are building will really help us going forward.

Even with all the disruptions of rotating players it was difficult to single out individuals considering the excellent team performance. However, notable was Logan becoming the 3rd player of the season to get 100 points with his 20th try and Ronnie getting his 1st of the season.

Bragging rights again for the Bedwas High lads.

Machen 53 - 0 Bedwas

Tries - Logan x2, Leo x2, Evan, Ronnie, Toby, Harry, Ben
Cons - Tom x4
